Confronted with a newborn baby, many parents worry that they will not know what to do. Will she start to breastfeed automatically? How much sleep should she have? How much food does she need? What is she refuses food?
Fortunately, looking after a baby does not require special skills-just some basic knowledge, common sense, and a willingness to ask for advice. In the space of a few weeks, your confidence and experience will increase dramatically, and you will know the best way to change, hold, comfort, and feed your baby. You will learn that if she needs something she will usually find a way of communicating with you.
As your child gets older, she will become more independent. By the age of four, she will be able to feed, wash, and dress herself, and she may be quite opinionated about the clothes and foods she does and doesn’t like. Her physical needs will no longer take up so much of your time. Your role in her everyday care is to keep her strong and healthy by meeting her dietary needs and looking after her health and hygiene.
