Remember it took nine months for your body to gain so much, so don’t expect to get back in shape in a few days or a month. Exercise is one of the effective ways to regain your pre pregnancy body.
But don’t start off with high-intensity activities. Give time to your body to relax and get back its strength and start your exercise regime once you feel ready for it. Each one’s body is different so what may work for the other may not do for you.
A very important point to bear in mind while trying to get back in shape is how active you had been during your pregnancy. If you had been regular in doing exercise at that time, it will be easier for you to shed off those extra pounds faster.
It is advised to start with an exercise plan after six weeks in case of normal delivery and after eight weeks if it is a caesarian delivery. But few exercises like Kegel crunches can be done even after a day of delivery.
This exercise helps in toning and strengthening the pelvic floor muscles which are under a lot of stress during pregnancy and delivery. More over it can be done at anytime and anywhere. It involves tightening of the vaginal muscles as if to stop the flow of urine, hold for 5 seconds and relax. Do it 50 -80 times a day.

Doing Kegel exercise will be beneficial in the later stages of life too. Choose a realistic goal for your exercise because you have to remember that your schedule will be hampered by the responsibilities of looking after the baby.
If you are determined to lose weight after delivery, set an exercise routine which you can follow regularly without a break because doing it in spurts won’t help much. Do it at least three times a week even if it is for short duration of 15 minutes.
You should consult your doctor before starting on any kind of exercise. And discontinue it if ever you feel symptoms like dizziness, shortness of breath or palpitation. Listen to your body.
Eating healthy along with exercise is another effective way to lose weight after childbirth. Include lots of fruits and vegetables, lean meats, cereals etc. in your diet. Don’t go for those dieting fads. Stay away from junk foods.
