Newborns are best carried in slings worn on the chest, where they feel close to you and secure.
- Look for a sling in a washable fabric, for it will get dirty as you carry your baby around
- It must be easy to put on and comfortable to wear for both you and your partner. Try it out with your baby before you buy it
- Your sling should support your baby’s head and neck, and keep her secure; she must not be able to slip out the sides
- The shoulder straps must be wide enough to support your growing baby’s weight. Wide shoulder straps will also make carrying more comfortable
- It has been said that a baby shouldn’t be carried in a sling until she can support her own head. This is not true. Use a sling as soon as you and your baby are happy about it
